If you are thinking about booking a trip to the ENT doctor, don’t go with a blank slate in your mind. You should have some clear questions to ask about your concerns and just general information you can use to live a better life. Here are just four questions you should ask without any notion of holding back due to embarrassment or anything else.

Can I choose my own hearing aid?

In short, yes, you can. However, as an ENT doctor, their profession is very complex, and they are highly trained for a reason. They will illuminate you of all your options. You may want a powerful hearing aid because you think your hearing will deteriorate quicker than you have been told and you just want to be on the safe side. But the ENT doctor will give you a detailed explanation and presentation of what is going on with your hearing loss and what kind of hearing aids would be best of you.

You may not need to buy an expensive large hearing aid, which is visible. You could have cutting-edge contemporary hearing aid which isn’t so visible. This is both cheaper and could take away any self-consciousness you have.

I’m having trouble breathing through my nose, what should I do?

An ENT doctor will do an examination of your nose and furthermore, your sinus. They will look at what could be causing a blockage and if you have an infection. You might feel self-conscious due to someone looking up your nose, but an ENT doctor is used to this part of their job. They’ll make you feel at ease and they’ll be as courteous and professional as possible.

If something is found up your nose, we will remove it safely. This can be done with or without local anesthetic. If you have an obstruction that poses a danger because it could travel deeper into your windpipe and cause you to choke, we advise that you allow us to remove it during surgery.

My eyes keep watering, what is causing this?

There could be any number of reasons for your eye-watering. It could be that you have a deviated septum. This causes the nerves at the tip of your nose to be irritated and causes a common reaction that makes your eyes water. You could also have an infection in your sinus which is causing you to sneeze or again, make your eyes water. If you have the flu, we can identify the symptoms and give you a treatment option.

My throat is scratchy, do you have anything for that?

An irritated throat isn’t always simple and straightforward. It could be linked to an obstruction or perhaps the way you sleep. It could also be down to your home, which could have an abundance of dust mites and or bacteria such as mold. We’ll study what’s going on inside your throat and help you breathe better and take away the irritation.
